Is the story still relevant? Can an individual stand up to discrimination and to killing systems? How do survivors shape our world? You will hear the testimonies of survivors and contribute to the co-design of Making a Museum of Survivors from the ruins.

5. Genocide and international law testimony activity

25 Apr - 26 Apr 2024

The testimony activities were based on the legacy of international law and genocide – and issues of justice and law. The Heads of the Camps in Brnenec and Plaszow were the first case of genocide and crimes against humanity tried in Polish courts. In addition, an informal court was set up in Schindler’s Ark where a German soldier was inadequately tried and executed. The activity will listen to the testimonies of Schindler Jews who met the individuals, and their responses to the trials and to the informal court in Schindler’s Ark. This shows the different views on justice and law.

7. Otti Berger and bauhaus Jewish Textiles

The expert seminar shows the role of Jewish artists in the Bauhaus at the start of the 20th century and how those that survived continued to shape our world to the end of the 20th century.

The aim was also to support the legacy of Otti Berger one of the greatest talents of the Bauhaus who was murdered in Auschwitz, and show that she can also continue to shape our world.

8. Ben Ferencz - Interactive Testimonies

These events look at technology and testimonies and how to make testimonies interactive and involve the viewer in a conversation.

The event demonstrates interactive testimonies to students in five countries with follow up co-design inputs in Czech Republic, Hungary and Switzerland.

9.Starting from Zero: Role of Art and co-design of exhibition

14 Dec 2023 -15 Dec 2023

Widar Halen, the director and curator of the exhibition will introduce the exhibition and present the role of the Jewish textile artists Otti Berger and Anni Berger, one who survived and another who did not. In addition, the art of the Schindler Jew Joseph Bau will be shown, who used poetry and jokes to save as many lives as Oskar Schindler first in the ghetto and then in Brnenec. This highlights Jewish creativity, agency through art.

10. “Starting at Zero” exhibition and competition of young students with architect awards of winning projects

Online event of exhibition of “Starting at Zero” young architects for the site of Schindler’s Ark, prepared 2023-24 with online awards and web-based meeting. Models of how Schindler’s Ark will be developed will be installed permanently.

11. Making Jewish Heritage Textile Activity

12 - 15 November, 2023

The objective of the “Making Jewish Heritage” activity was to involve participants in the Jewish Heritage in textiles. This involves understanding the textile work of Otti Berger and Anni Albers, one who survived and shaped modern design and textiles, the other who was murdered in Auschwitz.

12. School curriculum

You are invited to a capacity building workshop on the Teaching Curriculum. The event is to share experiences on the teaching curriculum, launch the description of the activities and to discuss learning outcomes for inputs to the impact assessment.

13. iWalk Schindler’s Ark, hybrid place based digital

1 November, 2023

We have developed the iWalk digital testimony activity. This activity will be available and implemented to students visiting Schindler’s Ark, Brnenec and with in-person events in schools in Czech Republic, Hungary and Switzerland.

14. Complete and test 2 new iWalk activities – Otti Berger

5 - 6 August, 2024

In person launch of materials on Otti Berger open to students from 5 countries and the public accompanied by iWalk materials. European path of iWalk and extension of Schindler’s Ark to surrounding European countries and release of iWalk.

15. Arks - Digital Testimony Activities and Database

8 May, 2024

The event is to share digital testimonies collected and edited during the project, present the new perspectives they have provided, and build capacity on how to access and use them. This covers the use of iWitness, iWalk place based testimonies, and access to materials recorded as part of this project on Emilie Schindler and the Schindler Jews.

16. Six digital and place based interactive testimony activities

25 November, 2024

The activity developed six digital and place based interactive testimony activities using thearchive of 110,000 hours of Survivor testimonies. In addition, testimonies were recorded withthe family of survivors, village members in Brnenec, Thomas Keneally, and Erica Rosenberg.

17. Policy Seminars with Teachers

Workshop to review of implementation of teaching activities 2023-24 and identification of actions to develop in policy context in each country going forward.

18. Release of school curricula module adaptable to all European contexts

30 October, 2024

The background to the activity was the development, piloting and adaptation of the School Curricula in participating countries 2024-24. This was formally reviewed by an independent evaluation which accompanied this activity.

Based on these learnings, the online consultation built capacity and worked to map the curriculum to different European contexts. In addition, it worked to further integrate the curriculum based in Schindler’s Ark to link it to sites of memory in Central Europe.

19. Impact Evaluation completed and end report provided – eval meeting

Schindler Jew families return to make a Museum of Survivors in Czech Republic

The family of Schindler Jews return to Schindler’s Ark on 25th June to mark 30 years since the release of the film Schindler’s List. They will meet with 200 school children from 5 countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Austria and Slovakia) to co-design the Museum of Survivors supported by the European Union.
