Inspireli Schindler's Ark Competition

The Arks foundation in cooperation with Inspireli Awards announces a competition for conceptual design of transformation of the Schindler's Ark site as an urban study and the reconstruction of the Ark into a Holocaust Survivors Museum.

The Inspireli Awards is the largest student architecture competition in the world, involving over 1200 students and 900+ architects in the jury coming from 150 countries. Inspireli has produced competitions such as the Beirut Port Reconstruction Competition, the new STU Campus, the new Czech Embassy in Ethiopia and the Miris Garden resort in Croatia.

The vision of Schindler’s Ark competition is to create a dignified memorial to the survivors (Museum of Survivors ) and to preserve the legacy of the Oskar Schindler's Camp by describing and continuing the history of the Low-Beer family and the textile production in the region.

The sustainability of the project is supported by the combination of a Museum of survivors, a Commercial Hub including large workshops for craft production, and a prototype of modern, sustainable housing that meets the needs of the community (housing for seniors and young families).

Making a Museum of Survivors

The teachers and students from five countries will contribute to « Making a Museum » co-design activities in Schindler’s Ark.  They will become student Arks diplomats and can participate in learning activities over the next two years with the other schools.  They will be invited back to the launch of the museum in 2025 to see their ideas and names installed permanently.  We recommend 5-15 students per teacher, and the teacher will be paid a modest stipend for participation.

The event will launch a two-year process to « Make a Museum » with schools from five countries.  There are 116,000 hours of testimonies collected by the Shoah Foundation.  You will follow an iWalk of the stories that occurred here, the testimonies and film clips, and experience the poems, music and art of survivors who shaped our world.  Their descendants will be present.  The grandson of the previous Jewish owners of the factories will guide you around the site sharing the stories.

Is the story still relevant?  Can an individual stand up to discrimination and to killing systems?  How do survivors shape our world?  You will hear the testimonies of survivors and contribute to the co-design of Making a Museum of Survivors from the ruins.
